About Ruth

Treeface.jpg

Born in Adelaide, South Australia, Ruth Woolley is an independent creative who finds joy working with a multitude of materials and processes. A self-confessed "serial-short-courser," she balances creative making alongside a professional career focused on people and system improvements.

Growing up in a small, close family, she shared a strong bond with her creative, automotive-obsessed dad. Spending endless hours at swap meets and boot fairs learning to appreciate the old, quirky and forgotten. As a child, cardboard cereal packets provided endless robot-making opportunities (which her mum recalls never being allowed to throw out), alongside hours of drawing and clay modelling.

As a senior high school student, Ruth studied floristry, where she first discovered the well-being benefits of balancing analytical and creative processing — letting the left and right sides of the brain support each other. This balance remains vital to her journey, and it is something she is passionate about sharing with others.

Now a qualified horticulturist, former florist, and enthusiastic home gardener, Ruth lives on a small property, with her partner Jason, fur-child Monty and her mum; in Adelaide's southern suburbs. A hidden gem, where her family has a long history running a local Individually Constructed Vehicle (ICV) manufacturing business, helping self-builders realise their dreams from their home sheds. Rooted in the retro era, Ruth is a passionate vintage and chrome enthusiast, tinkering with an eclectic car collection left by her late father, alongside her own.

After completing a Certificate IV in Visual Arts in 2025 at TAFE SA's Adelaide College of the Arts, she is continuing her professional creative journey part-time, now enrolled in the Diploma.

For Ruth, art-making is a vital, ever-evolving way of responding to the world — a true lifelong journey.
